TASU VILLAGE LEARNING CENTRE

In 2017, I Am More opened its first learning centre in Tasu Village, Cambodia. The learning centre runs in the afternoon to act as a supplementary education centre for children already attending school, and is also the sole education for children who work to support their families during the day. The learning centre provides Khmer, English, Mathematics and Bible classes and a daily nutritious meal.

The purpose of the learning centre is to provide an education to children living in poverty, and at a high risk of exploitation. Education allows them to break the poverty cycle by providing more employment opportunities within safe and humane working environments.  Gaining sustainable employment in the future will enable these young people to feel a sense of purpose by contributing to society in a meaningful way, and provide opportunities well beyond what their current situation may dictate. It is our aim to help support Tasu Village to become self-sustainable in three years through education, and developing a farming program which will provide food and income for villagers.

The ongoing cost for running the learning centre is $760USD per month. This pays for children's meals, two teachers salaries, one cooks salary and educational resources. Please help us in providing an education to vulnerable children!

CURRENTLY IN CAMBODIA:

X Many children are orphans, or do not have loving or nurturing home environments which include many forms of physical/ sexual/ emotional abuse.

Many parents have little or no education, which leaves their children vulnerable to exploitation.

Many families do not have enough money to send their children to school, and some parents force children as young as 8 into working 12hr days (forced labour).

Many households do not have enough food to support the needs of their family, and therefore children become malnourished and require urgent medical attention; which most families cannot afford.

OUR LEARNING CENTRE IS PROVIDING:

Children with loving and positive role models, who can invest in teaching life skills and to nurture and support them emotionally.

Children with the opportunity to learn literacy skills in Khmer and English which can provide them with a stable job and income, free of exploitation.

Children with resources such as school supplies, as well as creating a space of safety and security.

A nutritious meal each day, to ensure children are nourished and able to grow up healthy and strong.
